Default a catnip story

About a month ago I went to visit my uncle who has ALS. They have a very nice cat named Jill. I noticed she had lots of toys but no interactive toys. My cousin was complaining that Jill didn't "fetch" so it was difficult to play with her since she had to keep going to get the toy to throw it.

After that visit I made up a little package with the type of interactive toy that my cats play with sometimes. It has a very long fleece type "rope" with feathers at the end, attached to a stick (I didn't send one of Mazy's favorite "fish on a stick" toys because that has an elastic string and I was afraid they wouldn't be good about putting it away)

I also made up a little catnip sock with some home grown cat nip, harvested and dried. I have a pile of old wool socks that I make the toys out of. I stuffed the sock toe full of the catnip and sewed it up, placed it in a zip lock bag, then packaged the whole thing in a large padded mailer envelope and sent it off.

Yesterday my mother went out there and I just called her to see how things are. My uncle is doing well, and then she told me the story of when they got the package.

My cousin had got the mail and left it on the dining room table and then went to work. When my uncle came home he saw this incredible mess on the dining room table. The paper padded envelope had been torn to shreds (and those things make a mess), the plastic baggy had been ripped apart...he was astounded and couldn't think what the heck had happened until he finally found my note under the table. When my mother told me this story I was cracking up, I can just imagine his face when he saw such a mess on the table, as Jill is usually a very well mannered cat, and would never jump on the dining room table. That catnip is strong stuff, it amazes me that she could smell it form the floor! hehehe

And my cousin uses the interactive toy and makes Jill leap into the air, she didn't even know Jill COULD leap!

That was a good idea, and I'm glad it worked. Hugs to you for taking care of them.

What fun for Jill and for the whole family!! I see my Stella rip open those metallic bags of treats with no effort at all so a paper envelope would present very little obstacle to a determined cat :-)

If if had been a bubble wrapped mailer, I wonder if the cat would have spent time popping the bubbles? LOL.
