  • New alert on pet food

Three brands of Sportmix products for dogs and cats made by Midwestern Pet Foods may contain potentially fatal levels of the toxin aflatoxin, according to the FDA.

The FDA said it is aware of at least 28 deaths and eight illnesses in dogs that ate the recalled pet food.

Never heard of the product, guess we don’t have it put here.

In a surprise to me, it even got mentioned on the local news programs. I hadn't heard of it either.

As of January 21, 2021, FDA is aware of more than 110 pets that have died and more than 210 pets that are sick after eating certain pet food manufactured by Midwestern Pet Foods. Not all of these cases have been officially confirmed as aflatoxin poisoning through laboratory testing or veterinary record review. This count is approximate and may not reflect the total number of pets affected.
